Best Seasons to Get Married in Vancouver (Weather, Costs & Crowds)

Vancouver is one of those cities that’s perfect for weddings year-round. Between the ocean and mountain views, and stunning venue options for every size and style of celebration, this city is hard to beat. That said, the season you choose will have a huge impact on the overall vibe of your day. Weather, pricing, and venue availability can all change depending on the month.

Of course, every season has its own charm, but it really comes down to what you’re envisioning for your wedding. As a Vancouver wedding planner, my job is to help you narrow down which season makes the most sense for your celebration. So if you’re deciding when to get married in Vancouver, here’s a realistic breakdown of each season.

How to Choose Which Time of Year to Get Married?

Before you dive into wedding planning, one of the most important things you can do is sit down together and talk through your priorities. I know it can be tempting to jump right to Pinterest and start scrolling through inspiration, but first, you’ll need to tackle some logistics. You’ll want to discuss everything from budget to your guest count, and yes, even the season you get married.

When choosing a date, think about what actually matters most to you. Is there a sentimental time of year or a meaningful date you love? Do you picture yourselves saying vows outside in the sunshine, under trees in the fall, or with snowy mountains as your backdrop? It’s also worth thinking about how much crowds, travel, and availability matter to you—especially if you’re eyeing a popular venue or inviting guests from out of town.

I always remind couples that there’s no “right” season to get married in Vancouver. After breaking down each season below, you should have a clearer idea of which one fits your vision and priorities best.

Spring Weddings in Vancouver

Spring weddings in Vancouver are some of my favourites. Weddings during March, April, and May tend to have a softer feel, with pastel palettes, garden-inspired details, and a whole lot of flowers. This is truly when the city really starts to bloom, and it feels so fresh and romantic.

Weather:

Spring can be a bit unpredictable. While flowers are starting to bloom, this season usually comes with its fair share of rain. Outdoor ceremonies are definitely still possible, but having a solid backup rain plan is a must. If rain on your wedding day would cause a lot of stress, spring might not be the best fit for you.

Costs & Availability:

Spring is a bit of a middle ground when it comes to pricing and availability. In my experience, you can often find more flexibility and sometimes better pricing compared to the summer months. March and April aren’t considered peak season yet, which can work in your favor. By May, things start to pick up quickly as we head into summer, so if lower costs and more availability are a priority, the earlier part of spring is usually your best bet.

Crowds:

Spring is generally less crowded than summer, but it’s still a fairly busy time of year in Vancouver. The good news is that it’s usually easier for guests to find accommodations, and venues tend to have a bit more availability. That said, the city is definitely starting to defrost after winter. With flowers in bloom and the weather getting nicer, spring definitely draws plenty of attention.

Tying the Knot in Summer in Vancouver

Summer is one of the most popular wedding seasons in Vancouver, but it’s also one of the most crowded times in Vancouver. This is when the city is at its absolute best, with long days and warm weather ( yes, the weather is a big reason why). Weddings from June through September are bright and bold, making this season perfect for couples dreaming of outdoor celebrations.

Weather:

Summer has the most reliable weather of the year, which is why it’s so popular for weddings. They are typically warm and dry, making them ideal for outdoor ceremonies and receptions. While rain is less likely, Vancouver weather can still be unpredictable, so I always recommend planning ahead with shade and a rainy-day backup plan just in case.

Costs & Availability:

Summer is peak wedding season in Vancouver, which means higher demand across the board. Venues and top vendors often book well in advance, and pricing tends to be the highest during these months. If you’re set on a summer wedding, starting the planning process early is so important.

Crowds:

It probably comes as no surprise that summer is the busiest time of year in the city. Tourists are everywhere, hotels fill up quickly, and all the most popular photo locations can get crowded. That said, summer is also when Vancouver feels the most alive. With a bit of thoughtful planning and timing, we can help you create an easy and enjoyable experience for you and your guests.

Fall Weddings in Vancouver

Fall weddings in Vancouver have such a special place in my heart. Once summer comes to an end, things slow down, and the city starts to feel cozier and more romantic. The trees begin to change, fall colours are everywhere, and the overall vibe is just perfect for those going for more of a moodier wedding.

Weather:

Fall weather can go either way, especially as the season goes on. In early October, the weather can still feel mild, but by November, it’s definitely cooler, and rain is more likely. Outdoor ceremonies can work, but I always suggest planning for an indoor or covered option so you’re not stressing about the forecast.

Costs & Availability:

Just like spring, fall definitely varies when it comes to pricing and availability. The start of the season, when leaves are just starting to change, is definitely considered a peak wedding time. You can expect venues and accommodations to book up quickly! But later in the season, things start to open up. Venues and vendors usually have more availability, and pricing can be a bit more flexible.

Crowds:

Compared to summer, crowds are a lot smaller. Hotels are easier for guests to book, and the city just feels more relaxed overall. But don’t get me wrong, it still has that Vancouver buzz, just without all the chaos.

Planning a Winter Wedding in Vancouver

Winter weddings in Vancouver are seriously underrated. December through February are wedding thats that are so often overlooked. But as an experienced Vancouver wedding planner, I can tell you that they are absolutely stunning! Just picture those dreamy couple photos with snow-capped mountains as your backdrop, then running inside for a warm, candlelit reception.

Weather:

Winter in Vancouver is definitely cold, with the occasional snow. Outdoor ceremonies aren’t very common, but indoor venues are incredibly popular during this time of year.

Costs & Availability:

This is hands down the most budget-friendly season. Venues and vendors tend to have the most availability, and you’ll often find more flexibility with pricing. If you’re trying to make your budget stretch further for your wedding, winter is a great option.

Crowds:

Crowds are minimal, which makes coordinating your wedding so much easier. Hotels are easier to book, venues are less competitive, and all the popular spots are quite quiet. Vancouver slows down a bit in the winter, which makes your day feel even more intimate and special.
